It is Friday at lunch time and in a few hours Sweden will clash with England in a game crucial for both teams. We are very excited about tonight’s event and will soon meet with the other guys at Tolstoy square before going to the stadium.
Yesterday in the afternoon Tanya and I organized a welcome committee for Sam, Lars and Rasmus. We first met Lars at the bus station and then Sam and Rasmus at the train station. Since we have been to the train station a number of times by now, it feels like we know our way around in the neighborhood. Our apartment is within walking distance but since Sam had luggage, so we went one station by metro.
Yesterday Tanya and I went to “Pozata Hata”, a chain of restaurants serving traditional Ukrainian and Russian food. One takes a tray and then walks along a long cashier where one can add small dishes to the tray. It quickly adds up to an impressive pile of food if one takes everything that looks tasty. The prices are affordable, we got more than we could finish for 12 euros for both of us so it is definitely recommended.
In the evening Tanya stayed at home to do some work meanwhile I went out with the guys to some restaurants and bars to see the games. Around 11 o’clock we experienced some rain – the first within six days in Ukraine. When going out in Kiev these days, one can hear nearly as much Swedish as Ukrainian and Russian. My guesstimate is that there were more Swedes in Kiev yesterday than any other non-Ukrainian nationality but maybe there will be more British people arriving during today.
